Have a look at it. Securemom is organizing mothers and supporters to change the law to allow Social Security benefits to reflect time spent at home raising children. This would be done by giving mothers credit for the time they spend raising children and earning less than $16,000 per year because otherwise they experience severely reduced Social Security benefits at retirement for the time they are earning little or no income. The gist of what they say is that 'you can't pay mom, but you can try to make sure that her retirement is secure'. Right now mothers receive no retirement earnings credits from Social Security while they are at-home since their work is unpaid. I think that something ought to be done about this. Give them a visit.
